Full set of European-style interior doors installed across this Los Angeles apartment. Eight doors in total, three distinct styles, every opening re-cased and re-cut to accept the new door frames. The owner wanted modern — flush panels, frosted glass, concealed hinges, matching black hardware across every opening.

Why European doors are a bigger job than they look
European interior doors come as a complete factory system — leaf, frame, trim, hinges, strike plate — all engineered together. They don’t drop into standard North American rough openings without modification. Every opening we touched needed:
- Old casing and jamb fully removed
- Rough opening checked for square and plumb, re-shimmed where needed
- New European frame set, leveled, and secured with concealed anchors
- Reveal gap at the leaf verified top-to-bottom before trim

Three door styles, one hardware language
To keep the apartment from reading as eight random doors, the owner picked three leaf styles that share a visual language — same flush-panel construction, same proportions, all with matching black hardware. The variety is in the surface: one is a full frosted-glass pivot with a concrete-look frame, another is a dark-stained wood double-door with brass-pin trim, the third is a cream matte double with a vertical frosted glass stripe.

Concealed hinges
All the leaves use concealed European hinges with full three-axis adjustment — a few turns of an Allen key tunes the leaf up/down, in/out, and left/right after install. That’s how you get the perfectly even reveal line that makes a modern door look modern. Standard North American hinges don’t give you that adjustment range.

Floors first, then doors
The hardwood floor was laid continuous under every opening before the doors went in — no transition strips at the thresholds. The leaf sweeps are tuned to clear the floor by a consistent gap all the way around. That’s one of the small details that separates a flush modern door install from a cut-to-fit retrofit.
