The client approached us with a vision: to create a space that combines comfort, shade, greenery, and modern aesthetics — all while working with the natural slope and layout of the yard. Our solution balances architecture, landscaping, and practical outdoor living, tailored specifically to the homeowner’s needs.

Design Concept Highlights

🌿 1. Wooden Pergola with Functional Add-ons

A central feature of the design is a hand-built wooden pergola, providing both shade and structure to the yard. The layout includes the option to add a ceiling fan, integrated lighting, and outdoor curtains or side screens for sun and wind protection.

The pergola creates a natural extension of the home and serves as the perfect spot for outdoor dining or evening relaxation.

🩵 2. Redwood Decking Area

We proposed a redwood deck as a key element of the lounge zone. Redwood is a naturally durable and weather-resistant material, ideal for California’s climate. Its rich tones add warmth and elegance to the space while ensuring long-term performance.

The deck connects seamlessly with the lawn and hardscape, visually tying the yard together.

🧱 3. Concrete Slabs with Green Inserts

The open yard area features a modern, low-maintenance layout of concrete pavers with green strips in between. These can be filled with artificial turf, real grass, or decorative gravel — offering both visual contrast and a breathable, walkable surface.

This layout adds a clean, geometric look while keeping the space practical and functional.

🪑 4. Built-In Seating and Raised Planters

We included custom built-in benches along the walls and fencing, which can be finished with cushions for comfort. Raised planter boxes add texture and natural beauty while also helping define different zones within the yard.

The green elements serve not only as decoration but also as a key part of the cozy, enclosed feeling of the space.

💡 5. Lighting and Ventilation Options

The design incorporates space for ceiling-mounted fans and integrated lighting within the pergola and around the perimeter of the yard — allowing the space to be used comfortably during both day and night.
