Full bathroom remodel in Los Angeles — a classic contemporary palette built around a Carrara marble shower, a white vanity with a quartz top, and a mix of matte-black and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures. The scope was a mid-range remodel, not a showroom budget, but the schedule was built around doing the invisible work right: waterproofing, substrate, tile layout, electrical runs.

The job
One full bathroom, down to the studs and subfloor. Old alcove tub, stock vanity, builder-grade fixtures, cracked tile floor. The brief from the homeowner was simple: a bathroom that will still look right in ten years, warm but clean, no loud trends. We kept the alcove tub-and-shower combo in the same footprint, rebuilt the vanity wall, re-ran the floor and electrical, and retiled everything.
Vanity
White shaker-style vanity with a quartz countertop, undermount basin, and matte-black hardware — handles, faucet, drain. Matte black on the vanity side keeps the morning-mirror area crisp and modern. Above it, a flat-framed mirror and a new wall sconce on each side, wired into a fresh dedicated circuit so the vanity lights and the ceiling light are on separate switches.

Shower and waterproofing
The shower walls are Carrara marble subway tile, running bond, floor-to-ceiling, with a honed finish so the room does not glare under the overhead light. Behind the tile is the real work: a full sheet-membrane waterproofing system taped and sealed at every corner and penetration, pre-sloped shower pan, and a flood-tested curb before any tile went up. On a tub-shower combo the water-management is still make-or-break — a bad seam at the tub flange is a slow leak for years.
Fixtures in the shower are oil-rubbed bronze: ceiling-mount rain head, hand-shower on a slide bar, pressure-balanced valve. Bronze and matte black are kept in their own zones — bronze lives in the wet wall, black lives at the vanity — so the two warm darks never fight each other across the room.

Floor
Marble-look large-format porcelain tile for the floor. Porcelain is the honest choice here: it reads as marble, it does not etch under toothpaste or shampoo drips, and it holds up to the thermal cycle of a hot shower on a cold morning. We ran the tile wall-to-wall under the vanity instead of stopping at the cabinet toe-kick, so if the vanity ever gets swapped out there is no tile-line scar on the floor.

Fixtures and lighting
- Vanity: matte-black single-hole faucet, matte-black drain, matte-black pulls
- Shower: oil-rubbed bronze rain head, hand-shower, pressure-balanced valve, bronze slide bar
- Lighting: two new wall sconces at the mirror, overhead vented fan-light combo on its own switch
- Electrical: dedicated GFCI circuit at the vanity, separate switch leg for sconces vs ceiling
