We recently completed a custom pedestrian gate installation for a single-family home in Glendale, Los Angeles. The homeowner wanted a clean, modern look that fit the architecture of the home, gave a clear sense of separation between the front yard and the side yard, and held up to daily use with minimal maintenance. The result is a custom composite and steel pedestrian gate — premium composite planks set inside a welded black steel frame, with solid hardware.

What we did
On-site measurement of the opening, the slope, and the wall conditions on both sides. Shop drawing approved by the homeowner before any steel was cut. The frame was welded in our shop, dressed flush at the corners, sandblasted, primed, and powder-coated. The composite planks were cut to length and fit inside the steel frame for a clean, even reveal. Heavy-duty hinges anchored into the existing wall, with the post side reinforced for long-term swing stability. Final fit-up, lock alignment, and a full open-close walkthrough with the client.

Why this build works
Composite gives the warm wood look without the maintenance. Steel gives the structure. The combination matches the home’s exterior, holds privacy on the side yard, and resists the daily wear that real wood gates lose to over time. Powder-coated steel handles Los Angeles weather without rusting or fading. The composite planks are UV-stable, will not warp, rot, or splinter, and need no staining or sealing — a wash with mild soap and water is all the care they require.
Materials and craftsmanship
Commercial-grade cold-rolled steel, MIG-welded by our team in-shop. Automotive-grade matte black powder coating over sandblasted and primed steel. Premium composite cladding rated for full exterior exposure, color-through and UV-stable. Mortise-style lock and solid handle hardware rated for residential daily use. Every gate we build is fabricated in-house — no outsourced welding, no shortcuts.
